Buy Icelandic Books, Fund Icelandic Translations!
I’m still very much in the early days of planning, but I’m excited to share a new project I’m working to get off the ground, namely a chapbook micropress I’m calling Great Auk Books. With any luck, starting this fall, Great Auk Books will publish limited edition chapbooks of Icelandic poetry and short prose in English translation, with a focus on work that is experimental in form, content, and/or production. Each Great Auk Books title will be selected and translated by yours truly.
To this end, I’ve registered a ‘store’ with curated book lists on Bookshop.org via their affiliate program. As an affiliate, I will get 10% of the list price on any book sold from that page, funds I will put directly towards the production of Great Auk Books titles. This won’t be my only source of fundraising, of course, but it’s a nice and relatively painless way of generating a little bit of revenue, and it also allows some scope for my readerly imagination. Also a librarian by training and trade, I love to make book recommendations, particularly of Icelandic literature in English translation or literature in translation more broadly, but also of English language poetry, contemporary fiction, (Nordic) crime novels, romance novels—you name it. I read very broadly!
So! If you would like a personalized book list to shop from on my Great Auk Books Bookshop page, get in touch!
